According to the literary magazine Qué Leer, Kirmen Uribe’s novel is among the best five books published in Spanish in 2010. At the top of the list is J. M. Coetzee’s Summertime. Second, the U.S. writer David Vann’s Sukkwan Island. Third, Nobel Prize winner Vargas Llosa’s The Dream of the Celt. Bilbao–New York–Bilbao comes in fourth. The list ends with the Argentine writer Ricardo Piglia’s Nocturnal Target. Bilbao–New York–Bilbao was published in Basque in November of 2008, and came out in Spanish, Galician, and Catalan last year.
